Passengers trust their drivers will behave responsibly behind the wheel. Drivers who are carrying passengers should drive safely in order to protect the lives and safety of those in their vehicles. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always happen, and a driver may drive dangerously, putting themselves and their passengers at risk. Such seems to be the case in a recent car crash in California that claimed two lives and seriously injured another.
According to reports, a 21-year-old driver in an unidentified vehicle was traveling west on Vintage Park Drive near Kirkton Court in Sacramento County. He was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his car and slid through a wooden fence and struck a tree in someone’s front yard. Authorities suspect alcohol impairment contributed to the crash.
As a result of the collision, the driver was killed, as was one of the passengers. The other passenger, a 29-year-old whose identity was not given was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious but not life-threatening injuries. No one inside the house was injured.
The surviving family of the deceased passenger along with the injured passenger each have the right to pursue civil action against the driver as well as anyone else who has an ownership interest in the vehicle. Since the driver died at the scene, plaintiffs can name his estate in any wrongful death or personal injury claims. By working with an experienced personal injury attorney in California, they can gain a full understanding of their rights and options for seeking compensation, and an attorney will fight hard to help them get the full amount they deserve. The homeowners may also be able to recoup the costs of their property damage through a civil claim.
